Commercially available gutloads...

jwr0201 Jun 02, 2003 11:31 PM

Are the store bought pre-packaged gutloads that are available any good? I've seen cricket feed/gutload from Flukers and a number of others. I'm curious if these give as much nutrition as desired. I know that making your own is probably preferred, bu I would prefer to buy pre-made rather than shop for volumes of ingredients that I would use in about a year for only three leos. In the end, I'll go the route that is best for the geckos. RR

T-rex has the new line of Super Foods(developed at sandfire by Allen Repashy) that has a gutload. The cool thing about this product is that it can double as a supplement. Just add it to your mealworm feeding dish as you would calcium. I have about 1/3 of my colony being supplemented this way. Allen recommended it to me as a replacement for Vionate. It can be costly if you don't buy it in bulk, so if you are using as a gutload only, cut it with babyfood flakes.
Good luck

I the UK I have managed to source a gutloading food called "Bug Grub". Its a dry wheat like mixture high in calcium as well as a few other bits and pieces.

I feed my Gex a combination of Crickets and Hoppers so I just feed them this a few days before I give them to my Geckos.
