I am very new to owning boa constrictors, my boa is about 6 months old and is around three feet long give or take an inch. About two weeks ago I went into a local reptile store to get some small rats and the lady tried to get me to bring my snake in so she could show me how to stretch its head for larger food, she said that it only coast $50. I have read quite a bit about boas and everything I have heard said that if you incrementally increases their food size there is no real problem but she said that it was very important. I just want to know if she is full of it or if this is a real worry.
The truth is that I really do not like her establishment, feeder mice cost $3.50 and the smallest rats are $4.50 which is much more than where I usually get my feeders. And most of her snakes are about twice as expensive as corresponding reptiles on Internet classifieds.

1st. Am I crazy? No she is! stretching the head? I have been working with boas and many other reptiles for 12yrs plus. That is crazy! And you pay money to learn how. Call miss cleo she has the answer.
2nd. $3.50 for a mouse? @#&%no!!!!!
$4.50 for a small rat? @#&%no!!!!
3rd. RRRuuuunnn!!!!!!!!!!

that is what I figured but I was not positive. Also she will not let you buy a snake unless she inpects your cage setup and approves it. I really hate going in there.
she also says "warsh cloth" alot.

Get mail order food items for at her price 6-1 for mice and 2-3 to one on the rats. you will save a ton of money doing it that way. bigger heads and bigger food items come with time. dont force things.

don't give her any business! in fact, stand out in front of the store (on PUBLIC property), and tell everyone entering the store that they are supporting a lying rip off artist!!!

but you've made the right choice coming here to educate yourself!
