Pellet question...

RepGirl Dec 13, 2003 12:25 AM

I am trying to get my dragon to eat pellets, which I just recently introduced to him. He has absolutely no interest in them what so ever. If anyone has any tips on how to make them more desirable to him, I would greatly appreciate it. I have heard about soaking them in apple juice instead of water, but have not tried it yet. Has anyone had luck with this? Thanks for your help!

How old is your dragon? Does he eat salads or not yet? If he eats salads, I'd just soak the pellets in hot water and mix them in with his salad. If he doesn't eat salads yet, I'd still do that, and then try to tempt him to the salad by pouring some worms or crickets into the salad, so he gets a few mouth fulls of lettuce/pellets. That is typically a good way to help them realize that their salad is a good thing for them to eat.

He is 7 months old. He has always eaten his salads, until recently. We have been on vacation in a different climate for a few weeks, and his appetite has not been the same. He seems much less interested in salads. Hopefully when we go home next week, his appetite will return to normal. As for the pellets, I have been soaking them and mixing them in with his greens and veggies, so if his passion for salad returns when we go home, he will inevitably be ingesting the pellets as well. Is there anything I can do in the mean time to make him more hungry for the greens too? Thanks.

Also, what kind of pellets and what size are you using? I tried giving my adults the repcal adult pellets, and they wouldn't touch them. Then I tried the juvie pellets and they love em.

RepCal pellets were not available at the store I went to, so I got T-REX juvenile formula. I have heard that most people have better luck with RepCal, so maybe that has something to do with it.
