doesn't want to eat..

myrenite Dec 13, 2003 07:50 AM

well.. my collared doesn't want to eat for 2 days.. yesterday she ate only one, tiny cricket. i tried hand feeding but it didn't work.. i don't know what to do.. should i leave it and maybe after 3 days give her cricket? or maybe drop her 2crickets and leave them? (i don't know if it's safe-circkets may bite lizards?) when i'm drooping cricket to terrarium she ignores it.. just lick it and then she jumpes on the walls.. she's qiute nervous for 4 days.. do you know why she's acting like this? and is brumation a necessary? maybe she's perpearing to this process and that's why she's nervous and eats a little.. any ideas?

that she has not eaten. Sometimes they go for a few days or longer, especially this time of year. They slow up with eating.

I would not leave the crickets in there, you are right, they bite the lizard, while she sleeps. If you drop one in and she is disinterested, hold off for a day or 2 then try again, she may be hungry if she has to wait longer,

As far as jumping on the sides, alot of them do this, especially if she is new, just getting accustomed to her home. Or she may be wc/ wild caught. They are a bit more nervous than cb/captive bred.

It may also be why she eats 5 or more crickets and you see no difference in weight, may have worms. Keep feeding her, try superworms, they add a little fat to their bones, Shes very pretty, I saw her picture. Let us know how she does, like I say , shes a real cutie, good luck with her. Ask questions anytime, someone here will be glad to help ! Eve

They are scientifically known as " Zoophobas mario " and are the larval stage of this particular beetle.

They look like a giant mealworm, have you heard of mealworms? They are used for bait in fishing, or feed to birds, lizards.

The superworm is just larger, and easier to digest for them.
Here we order them from the same places we buy crickets.
Hope this has helped. If not let me know, I will show you pictures. Eve
