For Future Reference about introduction of females..>>>

TebbyGecko Dec 13, 2003 08:18 AM

Hey,

I have a 30 gallon tank(not long) that I'll be housing my females in together once they're old enough and new ones have been quarentined so.. Right now I have a female who's at the 8 month mark now and I'll probably be swinging by the expo today and hopefully pick up a female blizzard(Wish me luck!). When the girls are older I'd like to house them together. Has anyone had any problems keeping two females together at all? I just don't want to have any fights or lost tails, etc. I'd really like to hear your experiences and any tips. Thanks guys.

When you first introduce them...keep an eye on them for a few minutes. If both leos have not been exposed to another leo for an extended period of time you will usually see...

Tail shaking
Head butts
Lunges at a tail or leg

But these are kind of minor and last a short time.

They usually get used to each other in no time at all.

I would recommend seperating them for feeding. Leos get really aggressive when its feeding time. I seperate all of mine during feeding and I've never had a problem putting females together...

you should have no trouble at all...just put them together and watch for a while...

Hi,

I have never had a problem introducing any of my females together. Thats not to say it cant happen though Just make sure you watch em for a while. Keep in mind that with housing them together, they do get into the occasional little scuffle if they get in each others way. two of my females get along fine and sleep next to/on top of each other all the time with no problems, but one of them sometimes will give the other one a quick nip if she walks directly in her way. It usually results in a quick little tail shake by the one who got bit, and then its all fine in a few seconds and they either ignore each other, or just go back to sleeping curled up next to each other. This started happening after I have housed them together for a year. when they were all introduced, it was fine, as if they didnt even care that each other existed. But thats just my experience

Thanks guys! I'm going to save those threads for the future, they're perfect!
Unfortunately I was not able to attend the expo. I was pretty disappointed, but there is good news; I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico! Lol, just messing-- I've ordered a blizzard female from Pete's Geckos and I think she'll be here by Tuesday. I'm all set to go, soooo I'll post a few pics when she gets here! Thanks again and see you guys later. I'll keep ya posted!
