Hey
I have not maid my own racks but do no how to do so. Get that thick white almost partical looking board that is used for makeing computer desks you have to now what im talking about its like 3/4 of an inch thick from home depot it will support itself and so you will not need 1x1 or etc. Get a screw gun and some screws. Select tuberware containers u plan on using take the lids off of them and measure them from top to bottom. Supposing its a 7inch tall tubberware container make the shelves from top to bottom 7 1/8 inch apart the 1/8 of an inch will be redused to about 1/32 of an inch once u put underthe tank heater or heat tape underneath the container. You will need to cut 3 inch hole in the back of each shelf gap to run you power through if you havent figured out by now im talking about a book case style rack. from there you can figure out the rest of what u wanna due thermostats rheostats whatever.

Here's my leo breeder rack. its housing some young snakes too for the moment. The top shelf is meant to hold two ten gallon aquariums so I can keep a closer eye on subadults, but I've got a sinaloan im trying to raise up in there.
The rack holds the 22 x 17 x 7 inch lock top rubber maids which i soldered a couple hundred holes in. I dont trsut the locks (for good reason!) so there are bungee cords to keep in my escape artists. I've still got the plans lying around so let me know if you want a look at them.

We have used these racks for over 2 years for our leopards, and fat tails. I actually have 2 of these racks side by side (I have pics but they were too big to load, if you would like to see them email me). I also have a pic of a hatchling rack we built!
Basically construction is just 2x2's and pegboard. I routed out the 2x2's to the same height and width as the lip on the rubbermaid you are using. Stop an inch before the end of the 2x2, so the rubbermaids can't go too far! Other than that attach those to a frame, and then put the pegboard on top of it. The rubbermaids are by far the most expensive part of this project (Besides the Rheostat of course). Then you just route heat tape and your done. The adult racks hold 8 28 gallon sterilites, and the hatchling rack holds 6 racks per shelf! I have TONS of pics if anyone wants some just email me. I have a homemade hatchling rack, adult rack, and also my homemade incubator!
