Interesting observation

bloodbat Dec 13, 2003 10:28 AM

I was checking the remaining 9 eggs (more likely 8 eggs) yesterday. In the late afternoon, the two dimpled eggs were still dimpled as they have been since Sunday or so. I checked them last night before retiring for the night and discovered the dimples were about gone. The second egg had no dimple and the first egg had only the slightest trace of a dimple. I picked up the egg container and touched the first egg. The, I actually got to see the egg finish expanding out so there is no dimple. It was the coolest thing to see the egg shell actually move outward. These two eggs have been dimpling and undimpling for over a month now. Interestingly, to me at least, the third egg in that container has not done this varying nor has any of the other eggs. It was weird to me, and I thought I would share.

Well, at least the dimple is gone . On another note, your webisite is pretty cool! I have a small female salvator myself and my wife is getting me an argus for Christmas. Eventually I want to try my hand at breeding argus monitors. Anyhow here's a pic of my water.

I suspect it was not quite the exciting observation it was last night. The egg dimpled again during the night and disappeared after I removed the lid to the container the eggs are in. So, I imagine that the dimple is a sign the egg is attempting to absorb something that is in insufficient quantities when the lid is sealed. I further suspect it is oxygen/air since the container is very humid. So, the lid is now just sitting on the container rather than sealed and if the egg dimples again, then I will either remove the lid or unalign it with the container to allow more air inside.
