Deathly Thin.. HELP!! Baby Leo

Breathingbywires Dec 13, 2003 07:01 PM

I just took in a really sick Gecko.. it's DEATHLY thin.. but something has been keeping her alive for like 4 months now.. it seems like she is eating simply enough to stay alive and that is it.. I can't even look at her she is so thin.. like not even energy to walk around it seems. What can I do.. until at least Friday when I can get her into a vet.

..she sees in black and white, while she dreams in color..

It's been sick for four months without medical care? Is this a rescue? How old is it and how long is it? What have the symptoms been? Runny stools? Bloody stools. Or no stools? was it from Petco? What substrate is it on? If it's impacted, you'd do something different than if it is infected with parasites.

If it no longer has the strength to stand it sounds like it will die very soon. It may be too late for this one. Even with prompt and intensive medical care it can be hard to save babies if they get hit with infection (i'm talking a few weeks or a month old), my vet says it is because their immune systems are't as developed yet, but I think also they just can't afford to lose much weight. I take it your is at least four months old but sounds like growth is stunted due to whatever the problem is.

You can drop a little pedialyte on its nose several times a day and see if it will lick it off. HYdration is important. Don't force feed, but if it will lick the pedialyte you can try dabbing a mixture of the followingon its nose for it to lick off

1 tsp. turkey baby food
6-8 drops flax seed oil
calcium powder
herp vitamin mix
2-3 drops liquid vitamin c
enough peach or strawberry nectar to make mixture liquid (not citrus juice)
