9" 7mo old dragon?

shek Dec 13, 2003 07:16 PM

Ive got a dragon that looks and acts like he is in perfectly fine health. But he is only 9" long and over 7months old.. is this possible or perhaps he is a rankin? I spoke to the pet store about it and they insisted it was a bearded but I have just never seen one this small at his age.. have you?
Anyone know the correct size of a rankins at that age?
I dont have any recent pics.. this one is from June so he would have been around 1 1/2 mo old at that time.

What is it (in the photo) that tells you that this is a rankin, not a bearded? I have a 5-6 month old that is 6-7 inches.
If he turned out to be a rankin I would be thrilled, because I was not aware of this smaller subspecies until I purchased my beardie. So how does one tell the difference? Especially in a juvi?
Thanks for any info! LIsa

Well.. thats good and bad if thats the case..
I'm happy its not a health issue if its a rankin
(still waiting to hear average size for a rankin of that age)..
Bad because I want a dragon thats a bearded size..
Not much I can do about it now but as much as I like my dragon I am not happy.

Yup, that is a Rankin's alright. I like Rankin's too, but I would be upset also, thinking I was getting one thing and actually getting something else. Did you get him at the pet store? I would go back there and make a big stink, although I guess it has been a while. I am glad you like your dragon, keep him, he will just be a little smaller.

Oh, that is actually the appropriate size for that age for a Rankin's. I could tell by the head though.

Thank you all so much for the info.
I think I'll take it up with the petstore just so they know what happened. But I would feel bad about trying to replace him, even though it's not what I wanted.
Leason learned: Don't buy from normal petstores perhaps?
