Ok, about last year i bought 2 chameleons from a pet store, a small veiled and a dwarf leaf. i admit it was an impulse buy bu t i researched them like crazy and thought i knew enough. they were very small when i got them, mabye 4'' long. i had them for about 4-5 months, the veiled was great, growing very well and feeding great. they were in a 10 gallon tank (i was about to build a open cage but they died before i could). i had a dripper system, and i supplemented their crickets. i rarely if ever held them and i don't see anything that would have stressed them. in hindsight, the basking spot was a little too cold, only in the 80's. well they were doing fine and then one day i notince the sagging eyes on the veiled. i looked it up on the net and it said it was dehydration, so i used a dropper and gave it pedialite for the next 2 days. it got worse and very lethargic so i took it to the vet, but they said it was too late. it died later that day. overall i only could notice the problem for about 4 days before it died. the dwarf leaf was fine and died a few weeks later without any warning at all. so my question is what did i do wrong. i realize that keeping them in the same tank was not good but they were like that in the store for a long time and they never interacted negatively, they really ignored each other. i would love to get another one, especially now that i know about this site, but i don't want that to happen again. any help?
