hybronating??

girlsayvoid Dec 13, 2003 08:15 PM

this is my second winter with my dragons but this is the first time i've ever seen this behavior with them. They're almost 2 years old and they seem to be hybronating. I guess I don't know what to expect out of this.
They both appear healthy. If I pick them up they're alert and they show no signs of disease. But they are not eatting and they're burrowed into their warm hide spot. They've been out twice and they did eat some veggies both of those days. But they seem to gorge and then go hide for a couple weeks.
Is this pretty normal? Their temps are good. Nothing has really changed except the weather...and with that I reduced their "day" times gradually to give them some seasons as well.

That sounds exactly like what they are doing. My beardie is the same age as yours and is doing the same things right now. This is his first year to hibernate too. You can't help but feel a little nervous about it when you've never seen them do it before. I've been told to let them sleep when they want to sleep, but keep fresh water and food on hand in case they wake up occasionally and want some. I think that's about it.
