HUGE Chameleons, what kind?

NocturnalCreatur Dec 13, 2003 09:32 PM

They were for sale at the West Palm Beach show today. Three of them up in a tree, they were HUGE! Over a foot in length, heads as big as my fist (that of an average woman). Can anyone tell me what they might have been? I'd love to have one oneday. But I want to start small lol.. like a baby veiled or jacksons.

if they were yellow and green striped, they were Meller's Chameleons. (C. Melleri)

Mellers are my favorite, but i dont trust wild caught ones and CB are few and far between.

post us a discription of their color!

Yeap, Meller's Chameleons. I did a search of it and the google pics. match the ones I saw today. Except only one was green. The second one was a greyish color with black I think with a few colors coming through and the other was orangish. I would have taken pics. but I left my camera back in the car (bad April, bad!)

The grayish animal with orange was about to drop dead from stress and/or disease. This color is typical of near death from shock or stress. Very sad.

Did they have (for lack of a better word) frills down their spine? if so it was probably a mellers. Ive herd they can eat small birds and mice!

In the wild, HUMMINGBIRDS make up a part of the diet of mellers.

isnt that wild??? says something for how fast the tongue really does move...

Speaking of mellers, anybody know where i can get some captive bred ones, at least 6 months old?

I've decided that i have to have one, after ive been doign my research for the last almost year.

Theyre still my favorite.

Occasionally keepers have offered them zebra finch nestlings (not adult birds). Melleri are known to take chicks from nests. Mice? I'd never do it. There is a very active melleri forum on Yahoo Groups. If anyone is successfully producing melleri they are probably a member. Check it out. We are working on a caresheet specific to melleri now. It's almost ready for release.
