Check out VPI's website for the war against mites. There are lots of options for treatment to choose from. http://www.vpi.com/
I took the easy way out and purchased a can of Black Knight spray on the classifieds when I picked up mites from some live pet shop feeder mice earlier this year. Thouroughly cleaned all cages (11 of them at the time), gave all the snakes a good soaking and treated the cages and room. No mites! Repeated twice more for good measure and still no mites.
Good luck!

Black Knight, though somewhat effective and widely used, has led to a number of deaths in captive herps. Instead, get yourself a can of Pro Products Provent A Mite, follow the directions, and your mite problem will be gone very quickly. It is safe and 100% effective and I highly recommend it.

Provent-A-Mite kills mites for sure but may be a bit strong/dangerous. I used it once on a burmese with heavy
mite infestation and the burmese died. I can't say for
sure it was the Provent-A-Mite. I am now going to try
a product called Reptile Relief which is supposedly 100%
safe.

GOTO HOME DEPOT & GET SEVIN-DUST 5 OR 10

READ THE DIRECTIONS & THEN SOAK YOUR SNAKE IN A SOLUTION OF THE SEVIN-DUST & WARM WATER FOR A FEW HOURS... TAKE ALL WOOD OUTTA THE TANK & DISCARD... SOAK ANYTHING ELSE LEFT IN THE SAME SOLUTION & ADD BLEACH TOO..... THEN TAKE THE TANK & TOTALLY CLEAN & DISINFECT IT USING DISINFECTANTS, BLEACH, WATER & SEVIN-DUST... WHEN ALL IS DONE, PUT A THIN LAYER OF SEVIN-DUST ON THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK & COVER W/PAPER TOWEL... RETURN THE WATER DISH & A NEW HIDEAWAY... THEN RETURN THE SNAKE & KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR NEW MITES IN 4 DAYS OR SO... YOU SHOULDN'T GET ANY, BBUT IF YOU DO, REPEAT THE PROCESS AGAIN....

I know a few people still advocate the use of Sevin dust to treat snake mites, but with effective and safer methods available now, I'd like to see this one consigned to the dustbin of history. Maybe someone can set me straight, but I don’t even remember seeing its use advocated 20 years ago in vet textbooks or in symposia proceedings. About the best thing you can say about it is that it is inexpensive.

Spidercrew, your instructions to soak the snake in a solution of Sevin and water for a few hours risks having the snake drink the stuff. I’ve seen a recommendation to keep the snake coated with the powder for at least a week. Forcing the snake to breathe this dust 24/7 is not a good idea. This insecticide was not intended to be used in this fashion.

Again, I’m not doubting that this stuff can kill mites. I’m not doubting that plenty of folks used it in years past (I used to use No Pest Strips – no more!). I’m just advocating using something safer, now that we have other products available. My recommendation would be Provent-a-mite.
