is there any real difference between the red night bulbs and the blacklight night bulbs? I usually use the red ones, but got one of the blacklight ones by mistake today.

I can only relay the knowledge of light that I have, not how it relates to snakes...
Red Lights are the lower end of the visible spectrum, closer to infrared.
Black lights are at the upper end of the visible spectrum, closer to Ultraviolet.
They are essentially... the "opposites" of light.
As to what this may mean, I have no certain idea, but I would tend to believe that it wouldn't be good.
Hopefully a knowledgable herpetologist could answer this. I am very interested in the answer myself. Good luck.

I prefer using the "blacklight" type bulbs. They give a softer moonlight kind of light during the night and almost no visible light during the day (just heat). I have had a 60w RepPro Nightlight Spotlight on my guy for his whole life, and it has been great. Keeps my temps right where I want them.
