Oni and Ganja, some Taiwans... Can I get some feedback? Cooling questions too.

Bammer Dec 14, 2003 01:44 AM

This is my first Taiwan. A female from East Bay Vivarium. I got her jan 2002. Really yellow? I have wanted to breed taiwans for a year now, and I finally got a male from bill at great vally serpentarium. Thier contrast is so astonishing.

I know it is a bit late, but how should I got about cooling them? Just wanted some experts advice. Thanks in advance.

I didn't even have to cool my Taiwans for them to produce.. I just seperated the male from the females for about a month, then reintroduced them, and BAM.. loads o gooey snake porn. 2 clutches of 12 huge eggs. But sticking them in a cool closet or something for a month could prolly have the same effect if they don't breed on their own. Prolly wanna drop em to like 60.. I dunno, maybe lower, see what the other people say.. Cooling my snakes makes me nervous. lol.

I love that sweatshirt... saw them in march in san francisco. Awesome show.

I do not like cooling either... but people say I should. Pretty much I want to keep them together in a huge cage with lots of pretty decor. I need to quarentine the male first though... I got him on monday. He ate some mice for me, slowly, but he ate them. Very un rat snake of him. I expected him to strike at everything, but nope... just non chalantly popped into his mouth and swallowed. Awesome colors though. They are the coolest snakes.

How are your babies? Sell any yet?

Well I get to hang out with KMFDM every year when they come around and get my boobs signed.. BOO-YEAH! lol.

Sounds like my big male.. At first he was a super slow eater, but eventually picked up.. he takes 2 jumbo rats a feeding now, very eagerly.. But he only gets fed about every 3 weeks, so he's prolly pretty hungry.. I'd get your taiwans onto rats asap.. Mice keep em too thin IMO. Mine grew like weeds and beefed up nicely once they were switched onto rats.

You will have to seperate them before breeding.. Thats just how it goes.. But you can keep em together after that.. my 1.2 live together in a 5ft by 3ft by 4ft glass and oak display case style cage.. Just take out the male, and reintroduce.. see what happens.. I put mine in a smallish rubbermaid tub at a slightly cooler temp for a couple weeks.. Kinda my version of cooling I guess. lol. But it worked.. He's a hornball of a snake. Will even start courting if simply removed for feeding.. Anyhow, yeah.. You'll have to at least pull the male out.. if they don't respond to it, then cool em..

I sold em all a while ago.. Had to, to have money to go to the San Diego IRBA show back in October.. Hopefully by next spring(not this coming spring) my albino and hets will be ready to go. Man will I be a happy biznatch then...

Ya, I am feeding my female medium rats. I dont have smalls for the male, so I gave him two jumbo mice. I will be getting more rats soon.

Also, alittle of topic, On your site you say you have an arowana? I have been considering one for awhile and I was wondering how you house yours. Soon I will be getting a 100 gallon tank for now. I can not decided between a black or silver arowana. If you want to keep this off the forum, you can email at Blackcerebrate@aol.com. Thanks in advance.

Hmm.. They look like they could both easily take large rats, IMO.. You wouldn't believe how much they stretch. They're the retic of the colubrid world. You want to beef them up if you plan on breeding them. Takes alot out of the female.. Mine were absolutely emaciated after laying, and they're chubby beauty snakes.

Yup.. 20" silver.. He'll shortly be in a 100gal like he needs.. Just need to find a stand sturdy enough to support the tank. lol. I like blacks alot, but most do not stay black.. Usually just have a thin black line around the border of thier fins.. otherwise look like silvers.. Feed em a good diet, and they really pick up in color.. Mine has salmon pink tiger barred fins, and a purplish/silver body, and bluish/green along the top.. He rocks..
