The best container would be one that has a maximum amount of surface area exposure. If there is more than 2-1/2 to 3 inches of wheat bran/oatmeal or oat bran/chicken mash substrate, there is more of a tendency for molds to contaminate & kill the colony as mealworms tend to "bury" moisture-containing vegs/fruits. Generally, I use a rubbermaid bin which can be purchased at most thrift stores. A nifty trick that I use is to put the vegs/fruits on top of a single layer of soy-based or plain newsprint, that way it hinders the mealworms from "burying" the vegs/fruits & they can actually eat through the newspaper to get to the "moisture".
the large plastic 3 drawer cart. I can move it around easily and I have a drawer for large worms, one for small worms & hatching eggs, and on for pupae and beetles. The one I have is at least 2' wide and supports a lot of worms. I feed off 300-500 worms a week and rarely have to purchase any.
