Bed-A-Beast

hsuansterz Dec 14, 2003 04:14 PM

Hey, I was wondering how often I have to change the Bed-A-Beast bedding for a small horned frog. Do they ALWAYS defacate in the water dish? Do I would have to buy packs of this material every week. Thanks in advance!

If by packs you mean the dry bricks, no. Not even every month do you have to buy a new brick. When I had bed a beast, I spot checked for defecation. My bed a beast was always a bit moist, so my frog would defecate anywhere. I changed the whole cage every other week to every week, depending on if my frog was burrowed or something. I don't want to disturb it.

a brick of bed-a-beast should last you a LONG time. i change its water daily, but sometiems he poos in the bed-a-beast and I just change that small area out.

in fact that bed a beast should last one to three months.

my pacman spends about 50% of its time on land and 50% soaking.
even with a slightly moistened bed-a-beast

what I meant is change the bed-a-beast in the aquarium one to three months depending how much he messes on the land. so a brick should last a LONG LONG time

You can "dig around" in the substrate and remove any large fecal matter and the surrounding, dirtied substrate around it. I change mine once a month, to get rid of any urine that has built up.

I was changing my Bed-a-Beast every 2 weeks because of red-leg that sprang up, but I now do things differently.

My frog Ned will sit in the same spot for about a week or so, thus I pick him up every 2 days and scoop out all the bedding around him and throw it out. I have about 3 inches so I can usually make it last a while.

Another thing you can do that works very well is get the bucket you made the bedding in, fill it with HOT water, and put all the substrate in there, really rinse it off, and then squeeze the water out of it. It works great! Now I will change it every month or so, just 'cause I am paranoid.

PS always grab his droppings with a kleenex if they are visible, you dont want those in there.
