Pissed at Petco and holiday blues!

Linda G Dec 14, 2003 06:15 PM

I went to Petco today to pick up some items and of course had
to walk by the Igs. They had them in a large octagon enclosure
right in front of the doors where the blast would reach them
each time someone entered or exited the store. There was one
baby that caught my eye. It was probably a few months old and
was the strangest green I have ever seen (almost like lime
colored). I then noticed some gaping which I have never noticed
so I am wondering if this little Ig is sick? The most touching
part about it was her eyes. It was like looking into my Beanie's
eyes! Very trusting and almost like she was talking to me. I
have never noticed this in my baby Digit. I really feel like
this baby was a female. Very wierd indeed! Then I walked away
behind her to look at some other things and when I turned around
she had make a complete turn and was watching me. I wanted so
badly to take this baby home but I have no more room or time
to care for another Ig and I am sure she was ill.

Is there any way to stop Petco from selling these poor Igs.
With all the happiness the holidays are suppose to bring, I
can't help thinking of all the homeless, neglected pets in the
world and how I wish I could help them all.

Thanks for reading
Linda

...our hearts are just too big!Everytime I go into Petco, it makes me sad & angry. I got 2 baby beardies from them & they both died about 3 wks later, I'm assuming due to parasites. They have a bunch of Schneider (sp?) skinks that are missing tails & limbs, along with many baby leos that look malnourished & unhealthy. I already have 11 herps & room for no more in my 720 sq foot 1 bedroom apartment! I am actually thinking of transferring into a 2 bedroom (and paying an extra $240/month) just so I can have (or rescue) extra herps.

And on top of this, my local reptile store went out of business & is going to be closed by Dec 23. This means I have to shop at Petco or Petsmart to get crickets & pinkies. That also means that whatever herps they don't sell they are either going to ship back to their breeders or give away to the pound! I just got my 1st snake, a rosy boa from them. And they have they adorable box turles & tortoises that I really want too. And these 2 big red-ear slider turtles seem to always try to grab my attention just like the baby ig did to you! I would get the sliders (as the owner said I could have them both for free) but then I'd really have no where to put them & I no nothing about turtles. Argh, why do I have to like herps so much?!

i hate going into petco. just about every time i go in i end out coming home with something new(i like it but my parents dont...lol) thank god i dont go in all the time..lol but the good thing about my parents is that they supprot wat i do my dad drove for 6 hours a week or two ago to bring me to pick up my adopted iguana.

a few days ago i went into petco to get some crix for my water dragon and i saw that the last iguana they had was on the skinny side and the enclosure was in terrible shape. no heat light there were crickets in the cage. it was a mess. i felt so bad that i brought him home. he is in my bros room right now and he is considering taking care of him. i need to make room in my room for him. i am running out of room quick..lol but i love rescuing lizards so i figure if i need to give up my room for them to be healthy than thats just what i got to do.

went a little off topic

Hello,

Although through inbreeding many different color morphs are being produced, A yellow green (young) Iguana would tend to indicate declining health.

I would like to see a law enacted where animals can be sold only by commercially by licensed trained individuals where it is mandatory to instruct the buyer on care. A signed form would be required. Too many animals are sold by chains with brainless people give poor or no advice. In addition, imprper care and environments for extant store individuals.

Sincerely,
Brian
