Switching WC balls from live mice to frozen rats?

pcole Dec 14, 2003 06:34 PM

Recently there was a post regarding a method for switching balls from live to f/t. I have tried in vain to locate this thread so maybe someone could be of assistance. I have 2 wc young balls that are currently feeding on live adult rats (believe me I'm happy that they are feeding at all!!!) I would like to switch them over to f/t rat pups. Does anyone have any idea of the thread I am thinking of? The method described in the thread involved getting the snake feeding 3 times on what IT wanted to eat and then gradually switching it over to frozen prey. If anyone can help me out here I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Pete

I think I remeber which post you are talking about. The method the person used was for four feedings try feeding them pre-killed mice. Once they've done that then move to prekilled rat pups for four meals. Then switch them to F/t rat pups. I think that's the basic idea, it sounds good to me, but I think that is what your looking for.

Hi,

This past weekend my 2 month old female ball took her first f/t mouse. I've tried before but it didn't work. Here's what I did. When I got it, it ate only live mice so that's what I gave her for the first few feedings. After that I tried pre-killed which didn't work at first. I had to give her a small live followed with a small pre-killed. After that she took pre-killed every time.

This past saturday I put a f/t mouse and a live one together inside a container and left it there for a few hours. When I took out the f/t mous it was soiled with urine and had a strong mouse odour. I took it out and gave it to my snake which she took without any problems. I am very happy that I finally got her to switch.
