just a question out of curiotusity...

A friend of mine asked an interesting question that i could not answer; first let me say i would never really do this, i am just wondering what would happen. he said that, what would happen if i put a garter snake (or some other coldblooded reptile or amphibian) in with my bp? would the snake be able to registed the other snake as a possible prey item, though it is not warmblooded? again, i am never considering doing that, i was just wondering. in the wild, do BPs eat non-warmblooded creatures? (for the record, i doubt it. but my friend wants to know...)

Ginevive, first off... try to ignore idiots like had23 who have nothing better to do with their time other then belittle people.

Regarding your question. It's really never a good idea to house snakes together even if they're the same species. Although it has been done successfully by people in the past it's risky business for the most part.

More likely then not the garter and ball python wouldn't show any aggression towards one another, but there is always a chance and that's why it's best to avoid the situation all together.

First, I do not think it is a good idea to house two different species together.

Second, do not pay attention to had23. He is just way too smart and too good for this forum and people in it. (or so he thinks)

Third, I do not think the two would show aggression towards each other. Neither of them has other snakes on their menu. Now if you put a snake eating snake (ie kingsnake) and something else....Then one of your snakes might just disappear.

I am also curious about this question...

I have a bearded dragon and a juvenile ball python. Abigail (python) is never near Boo (dragon), but would Abby track Boo if they were ever to encounter one another? Or would it agitate Abby to have Boo near, more appropriately? I think that's what the original question was, more around Ball Python's hunting senses that potential roommates. Correct?

[Disclaimer: They never would be in contact, the closest is when I have Boo out & my husband has Abby in the same room.]

I am not sure of the answer to your question but i would say that your python would still be able to sense the heat of another cold blooded animal because the cold blooded animal's blood would have risen to the temperature of the cage. Whether or not your python would eat this animal or not i have no idea.
