What's the deal with Spotteds?

circle Dec 14, 2003 09:21 PM

I'm just VERY curious as to why are spotted turtles cost a fortune. Babies cost around between $200.00 while in my local pet store, I can get adults for $20.00 minimum.

I breed spotteds and never sell them ,I trade them for other turtles. Spotteds are rare and in high demand. If your pet store sells them for $20 Send me 10 and I'll pay you $40 each for them.

Are you sure it's North American spotteds you're seeing in the local pet store? I've never seen one in a pet store. They are threatened or endangered in much of their range, and they are prized as pets, so that drives up the price. Most states in their home range require permits for possession. Unfortunately, poaching is all too common for spotteds.
