Oregano and feeding

deejay17 Dec 14, 2003 10:00 PM

I have bought some ghost shrimp and a guppie, but Oregano seems to have no interest in them. Is it because I am feeding him the pellets? Should I stop feeding him the pellets for a couple of days before I go on vacation to see if he eats them. He also seems to be shredding his plants. He is still munching on them, but he is just tearing them up into little shreds. Is this normal or is he mad? How do I get him to eat the feeders, need to know before I leave so he doesnt go hungry.
Also, he seems like he is always hungry. Every time I come to the glass now he come to where I am and scratches on the glass and then swims to the top looking for food. Are they like kids (maybe stupid question) when they go through a growing spurt they eat like crazy? Thanks
Deejay

If he gets hungry, he`ll eat them. Don`t worry. Eating fish is pretty instinctual for them.
And from what I`ve heard, turtles are the sorta critters that ALWAYS think they`re hungry, and will ALWAYS eat if we let them. Probably there were seasons of plenty, and seasons of nothing in the wild so they had to build up some energy reserves.
Though it`s not recommended you test the theory, I know tortoises can go for months without food.
So with plants, fish and shrimp to eat you certainly have nothing to worry about.

ur turtles are just used to seeing u come to the tank and feeding them, therefore they associate you w/ food...so they know when they see u...all they need to do is splash and beg against the glass and hopefully ull go over and feed them, now about the whole guppie things, when i first introduced my babies to guppies they wouldnt touch them, if your turtle is still a ammuture at hunting guppies..you might want to help him/her..i read that one way to help them is by cutting off the guppies tail, this wont kill the guppie, but it will slow them down enough for the turtle to catch it easily, i myself would trap the fish in a fish net, and while the fish was in the fist net, i would bring it close to my turtles, so this way there chances of getting the guppie was really good, anyways they learned well from that...
