Feeding Question

kyburm Dec 14, 2003 10:08 PM

I bought my burm about a month I am feeding an adult mouse every 4 days. It was 2 ft even when I got it and now it is 2'4" About when should I start on small rats?

Any time is a good time to start burms on rats. I start them on rats with their first meal if I can. I usually only experience about 1 in 10 being finicky (if that) and requiring mice or mouse scented, rat trickery. The majority of the time they begin on small or pre-wean rat pups with no problem. At 28 inches your burm will easily eat small or even medium rats with no problem. I think it's preferable to feed larger meals once a week, than to feed smaller meals twice weekly. It takes less time, their digestive process is smoother, and they reap more benefit from larger prey items as larger prey has geometrically less roughage and more overall nutrition. Plus it's cheaper.
