compact fluorescent heat output? i emplore you

rgetrst Dec 14, 2003 10:26 PM

greetings dendros,

i have been salivating over a few possibilities for the mini might compact fluorescent terrarium fixtures from esu reptile.
im looking at 2 x 9 watts with one daylight (about 5100 K) and one actinic (7100K) bulbs. i dont have any experience with cf. i want to use them on some chondro custom glass cubes from oceanic. the snakes have very delicate temp needs. could someone with experience approximately guess how much heat they emit by relating it to incandescents? like 100w, 150w or more? also kyle if you get this i caught your post below aout the same topic. what size, in inches, was the cage that reached 100 then 87 by a slight raise. what temp was the room? thanks to all

steve

My tank never got that hot, when I was testing it I put a probe under the hood and had it on the floor. So right at the lights got up to 100. I then moved it off the floor and it got to 87, and that is only 3 hotter than my normal fourescent. So it does not raise my tank temp any, and if anything 1 degree. I have it raised 3/4 of a inch from the top of the lid.
