How soon should I feed?

Red-eye_Matt Jun 03, 2003 07:57 AM

I just got a new baby ball python on saturday and I was wondering how soon should I feed it. I spoke to one guy (he is a keeper of around 30 snakes and will be supplying me with food) and he said I should try it tonight while others say that I should wait around 2 weeks to give him/her time to adjust to the new home.

The pet store that I got him from did not know when it had last eatin (they got them on thursday night and I bought it on saturday) but they did say that it is captive bred (if this makes any difference). When I was handling him/her, he/she was very calm and curious. This is my first snake and I would like some input from you guys.

Thanks

Matt

You would do best by leaving the python alone for atleast this first week. This will give it time to get adjusted to its new cage. I would not handle unless you have to for now. I would wait about 5-7 days and then offer food. This should give it some time to acclimate to the new cage and hopefully feel comfortable enough to eat. Then after a few good meals, you can begin to get the snake used to being handled without stressing it out too much. Remember even CB animals get stressed and handling too much can definatly cause alot of this stress.
Hope that helps.
