SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT SAVANNAH MONITORS>>>>>>>READ ON>>>>>>>

cv768 Dec 15, 2003 06:40 AM

These are pretty general and I know I have to do more research but we're not planning on getting a monitor soon, so I figured I might as well try to find out a little bit...

I was wondering:

How big do savannah's get???

What is the recommended size for an enclosure???

Which is the best beginner monitor???

Black throughts are good monitors but they get pretty big.

The UV question is one that's arguable. Since UV lighting that you can buy can't hurt them, I always error on the side of caution and use it with all my reptiles. As for a beginner monitor, I don't know if I could say. It's really up to you. Savs are always thought of as beginner monitors, but this may be because they are typically tame, readily available, and cheap. On the other hand Niles are also readily available and cheap, but not typically tame. My suggestion would be to check out some sites to answer some of your simple questions like typical size and temperment. Remember though that this is what is typical to the species and not what you always get. Someone mentioned ackies, they would suit you well if size is most important to you. Really though, think of a monitor and put it in your favorite search engine and read about the species before you buy.
