The 'popular' tag on a message simply means that a message post has been 'promoted' by one of the kingsnake.com moderators to the 'hot topics' box which is found on the upper right portion of main forum index page ( http://forums.kingsnake.com ). The hot topics box is capable of showing up to 10 promoted messages from among the kingsnake.com forums at any given time.

The 5 most recently 'promoted' messages are also featured on the main page of kingsnake.com ( http://www.kingsnake.com ).

Sometimes the promotions help generate responses to a person's question or comments, sometimes not. It is just a way of trying to grab people's attention and generating traffic to particular discussions of possible interest or to particular forums.
