Kreikie! A cornsnake

IcedGoddess Dec 15, 2003 09:16 AM

Did anyone happen to be watching the croc hunter last night? He was at an air force base in FL. It was probably a re-run, but anyway...he was in some underground mines and found a cornsnake. He pulled it out, it was obviously in FL, all red and silvery He kept talking about what a beauty it was Then he pointed out what it was doing down there. It was hunting bats!

I just thought it was cool, first time I've seen a corn on the croc hunter And first time I've ever heard that wild corns will hunt bats

Yeah, I think that one was a repeat. Still pretty cool to watch from time to time though. Corns will eat just about anything in the wild from my understanding. They even eat insects and various worms as hatchlings in the wild. While I personally don't have pics to prove it....I have seen pics of corns eating crickets and such.

I think I remember he "found" a rat snake, maybe a yellow or glades, which don't occur at all where he was. Seems like there was something else out of place, too. Hard to remember, but it was very disappointing that he didn't research his "finds" a little better.

They rent the snakes for there video's.Alot of shows rent them it's more cost effective than spending months looking for them in the wild.

LOL, not really. But the clip with the corn didn't really seem out of place to me?? I mean, I'm sure there are many cases where they would "rent a gerp", but this was such a tiny clip, and he didn't say much about the snake other than how pretty it was and non venomous. I guess I just never thought that would have been worth staging?

It sure was a pretty Miami though, and I like seeing corns on TV, because most of the people I know had never heard of them until I bought Ruby. (Though I was sickened by the appearance of cornsnakes on Fear Factor! )

I don't remember seeing any other rat snakes in last night show...but I could have missed them, It was late.

I don't think Irwin is very "up" on N.American herps, with the exclusion of the alligator maybe. He either didn't know much, or didn't care to say much about the corn, just admired it a bit and then pointed out a little bat right above where he found the snake. Probably under a minute clip. I'd like to see Corwin or Nigel Marvin(?) do a bit on corns...They can rent one of mine if they want lol

I was watching Austin Stevens on his herp photography show the other day and in the first he was looking for a giant green anaconda and in the second he was looking for a king cobra. In the first there is this cheesy scene where he finds a red tail boa hanging out in a tree in broad daylight (mine never comes out in the day) and goes up after it. Half way down the tree he falls into the river below with the snake. This was the most staged encounter I have ever seen. His show was filled with these bad melodramatic encounters. I have never seen anything like it. At least I usually believe Steve and Jeff are having a somewhat real experience even if it isn't, and I never worry about them injuring an animal.
