talk about hibernation!!!

zogtone Dec 15, 2003 11:17 AM

i logged on back in june to ask if anyone has ever had their tiger sal hibernate for more than a half of year. i hadnt seen him since february but did not give up hope and continued to keep his corner "pond" filled with water and the soil damp. a few months back i noticed there was dirt in the pond one morning- well lo and behold two weeks ago my tiger was sitting there grinning from beneath hislittle cave of arched bark. it appears he had been hibernating under the ceramic corner pond all this time. he wasnt even thin! but has been eating like mad every day now and at first was very shy. not so now. this was about 10 months! amazing.

I get worried if I don't see both of mine after two weeks. I start digging until I find them. I know I probably shouldn't, but I just locate them and make sure they are breathing and then cover them back up. I congratulate you on your tremendous patience!
