crested growth

Reptilefreak16 Dec 15, 2003 01:00 PM

I purchased 2 cresteds from a show on August 27th one was like an inch and a half and the other was about 3 inches. The one that was three inches is now a full grown male. The smaller one hasnt grown hardly at all. he is just over 2 inches long. I contacted the breeder in early november and he said to mix honey in with his baby food.He still has not grown any larger. When i got the two they were similar in size and now the one is like massive compared to the little guy. Any suggestions??

Hi, make sure they are kept separately to eliminate the competition for food. That way you also know how much the little guy is eating. Feed crickets as well as baby food. Make sure there is a constant level of warmth to ensure all food ingested is metabolized. Give them plenty of room to climb and move around. This activity will give them a need to eat more (for more calories/energy). In the process the animal shall grow as with all organisms. 2.5" is definitely not the size of a normal adult ciliatus. Use plenty of calcium so that they won't have any problems with their bones while they are still developing. The little one should still grow. If they have been separate, maybe it is the size of the cage. Also, try to gradually move up to larger insects.

The two cresteds have never been together because there was a size difference when i bought them. The male has grown to be a big boy.Good wieght and size overall. But this other little guy wont grow. I need miracle grow or somethin. He is in a ten gallon tank, too small? There are many vines and branches to climb. he eats really good.Temps are in the upper 70's in the days and upper 60's at night(basically room temps)Maybe hes a dwarf crested?that would be interesting.

Yeah give it at least a 20 high and it should pick up on the growth. If they dont get enough excersize they might be stressed and not processing the food correctly. I usually recommend 30 tall aquariums for cresteds.
