I have a suggestion to add to the chameleon breeders website

chameleoncrow Dec 15, 2003 01:17 PM

I suggests the fore coming website keeping track of bloodlines to also include a section dedicated for people to share a bad experience with certain dealers. It would be a "black list" of sorts.

Of course, one person might experience good dealings with a certain breeder, and certain might not, but if we can see the number of negative post outweighing the positive, buyers could at least beware. Too many a time have chameleon lovers, myself included, been victimized by selfish, money-crazed crooks. This would include breeders that provide misleading information or just plain lies, or fraud, or even lack of responsible after and before sales customer service. This is equivalent and just as bad as dealers who sell siblings as "pairs", don't you think?

I know some relatively "big" companies that commit unscrupulous business practice, but continue to thrive and do an sizable amount of business just because their name is mnemonic and it is advertised everywhere, and the fact that they disguised their dishonesty by website claiming all good things about themselves.

Keeping quiet and avoiding this would just perpetuate to the victimizing of chameleon keepers and hurt the chameleon industry as a whole.

I know that there would be problems, such as people who have personal difference with a certain breeder, and tries intentionally hurt the breeder's public image. I suggest there also be a moderator, or a group of moderators to form a "jury" of sorts. they would be able to access if a poster is just posting to ruin ones image, or if the posts were justified. The posts would still be online, but it would be the "jury's" decision of who ultimately gets into the chameleon breeders' blacklist. If that fails, there always the positive versus negative feedback idea.

The main point is, the chameleon community is protected from fraudulent and dishonest dealers, as well as breeders who inbreeds to make a quick buck.

I know it's allot of work and a lot of detail needs to be put in. But at least the idea is here. What do you guys think? Morgana?

I agree with your idea. One more thing that I'd like to add, is that lots of people want to be called breeders. And if they are lucky enough to successfully hatch a clutch(or part of one), then they have no idea how to care for the babies. A lot of wannabees don't have any foresight on the amount of time and food they will need to keep these babies alive & thriving. I, myself have seen month old babies that are smaller than my fresh hatchlings. These same people post their ads on the kingsnake classifieds and try to sell them off before they die.

It saddens me when poor helpless babies die from neglagant "breeders".
