HerpFreak04 Dec 15, 2003 01:37 PM

im new to the blood scene, i have a burm and 3 ball pythons, i read that they like the dark and was more active at night, so what should i use for heating for my blood, a few 150watt infered bulbs, ceramic heaters? ...i was planning on just getting some 150watt infered night bulbs .

What king of cage are you going to be heating, and what size?I have to run a ceramic heat emitter on two of my cages, but I will be changing that real soon. They dry out the humidity so I'm misting in the morning and at night.

well its 6 1/2 feet by 3 1/2 feet by 3 1/2 feet, i think soon im goin to put up a barriar int he middle and put a young burm on the other side, its home built outta wood and a plexiglass front, i have 2 250watt infered heat lamp bulbs from wal mart in 2 250watt silver lamp domes, and its keepin the temp where it needs to be at the moment

Thats a pretty large cage, how big was your blood?Ceramic heat emitter supposently are supposed to produce better heat than any bulbs, but it you really want to get serious I would get a radient heat panel as I hear these are very efficient.I would personlly cut down your cage to no higher than 18" and 4 feet long, 2 feet wide, as this is all thats needed for an adult blood.I'm going to be running 11" wide heat tape 4 feet long underneath my melamine cages and eleminate my ceramic heat emitters. Then by stacking them this should help keeping the heat inside. Also you can use rubbermaid containers running heat tape under them or a under tank heater.Hope this helps a little. Later, Ethan

thanks alot, the blood is about 12in long maybe, the cage is only temporary, my burmese is going into it before long and the blood will be moved to a new smaller cage

You know, 150 watts for a bulb sounds like a hell of a lot for a cage 3.5 feet high, if that is the size of the cage. My boa is in a
similar sized cage and I use a 75 watt infrared night bulb and his temps are over 95 directly under the light. Anyways, the bulbs dry the cage out, which is not good for a blood. What I have found best for heating bloods is undercage heater or a heat mat or the like.
