Just use the bottom of whatever container they are in as the "substrate".
They are too foul smelling and evil to waste substrate on.
lol ya i guess
They should breed non-cricketing crickets!!!
No substrate for crix.
Plain old tub/bin use some cardboard egg cartons for them to hide in and also papertowel and toilet paper rolls left over. Make a good place for them to hide and easier to retrieve them to feed. Just pick up the towel roll and shake over your cup, crix fall out of towel roller and into cup.
Crix just need a cricket chow for food and some of the water bites.

I put oatmeal in the bottom of my tub. They eat it and it also absorbs the odors. I have found it to work well but then again, I only get a couple dozen a few times a week.
