Leuc question

dybythesword Dec 15, 2003 02:22 PM

How old do they have to be before they breed? My new male is calling at about 12 monthes old, I wanna know if I can put in a mature female(3years) or one about the same age as the male(13monthes). Thanks for helping.

Twelve months old is about right for maturity of this species. How long has the calling been going on and does it sound like it's a full adult call rather than sub-adult 'practice' calls? I'm sure everything would be ok if you were to place a mature female in with him.

ty for the fast reply. He is past the early pitiful pubescent expirements. Do females mature at the same rate?

FalconBlade Dec 15, 2003 07:09 PM

I could be mistaken, but I believe the females mature at about the same rate. However, as eggs are pretty taxing on a female as far as protein intake and so forth. You may be better off placing the 3 yr. old female in with the male and find another male for the other female. The 3 yr. old female will difinitely be ready, especially if she has maintained a nice 'feminine' weight. Best of luck with them and let us know how it goes!
