White Tree Frog Help Needed

turtlemix21 Dec 15, 2003 02:53 PM

A friend of mine has a couple of whites, and she noticed that one of them has small white spots on the back of one, but not the other?? Was wondering if this could be a fungus of some type?? If it is, is there anything he can do to cure it on his own, or does he need to take them to a vet. All help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Mine occasionally show some white speckles on their back... I am not an expert, but there were some posts a long time back about this and they said it was probably just like freckles or something... They really show up when they turn brown.

Unless the skin is swollen around them or they look fuzzy like mold or something, it's probably normal.

Somebody else post and confirm though...

My Whites has this, and when I first got her I thought it may be a fungus too. I took her to the vet, and was told that is just a normal skin pattern.

As long as the spots do not have any feel to them, and look like they can just be a coloration on his back, then they are! My bluish tinted whites has the white speckled morph which breeders are trying to make in whites. I would not fear about the freckles because they are most likely just part of the color morph.

Of our seven WGTFs five have white spots - If they are the same type of spots you are talking about it is perfectly normal.

Barry even has a few stripes (Spots joined together)

Jeff has a brown spot under his arm which has been there since we got him 3 years ago.

Of Priss and Edith which are the only pure green frogs, Pris has two small red spots which have also been there forever - I'm assured they are birthmarks - I monitor them (and Jeffery's brown spot) allways just to be safe though.

No worries, some WTF's will get these white spots, some won't. I've read that breeders actually desire these, and try to breed to get WTF's with white spots on their backs. Personally I like mine without 'em, 2 bright greens, but to each their own!

THe spots do not look like they are part of the color of the skin. They almost look as if you could peel them off. But they aren't fuzzy or soft to the touch. Any idea, or any home remedies to try until he can get a vet appointment?? Thanks to all that answered.

I would try taking a wet q-tip and rubbing it against it gently to see if they are attached to the skin, if they are flaking then you should see a vet.

They are totally fine. They are just like freckles on a human. Just make sure that they do not change in size, color, appearance, etc. Some frogs have more than others, some don't have any at all. But if you are that worried about it, take it to a vet for conformation. It cant hurt to find a good one to keep on hand anyway.

If they look like the spots on the photo below then they are normal. Some White's have the spots. Even one of my REs has the freckles.

My WTF has at least seven of these spots. One of them is yellow! I was worried at first, but I've had him a little over a year now and none of them have changed.
