They get the protein from the pellets, and NO you don't give mealworms to baby beardies.

Also, I would definitly stay away from pinkies when they get older. Pinkies do no good at all.

Mealworms apparently have a hard shell to them that is a little bit harder to digest than crickets. I think it is an overexaggeration...we've fed mealworms to our babies without problems...you just feed less...but crickets are definetly better...

Also some people think that mealworms can chew through a baby's stomach which there is absolutely no scientific evidence to prove...the mealworm would be killed by the acid in the stomach if not before the jaws of the dragon.

People trying to feed mealworms to babies as a staple, instead of crix. It really does't take too many to cause some problems with babies. It's best to stay away from them until your beardie is an adult. Who can say how many to feed before impaction. I sure wouldn't want mine to be the Guinea pig.

Does everything have to be turned into a debate? Whether you want to give mealworms to babies or not..fine. The main point was that pinkdragon was saying that babies couldn't be raised crix free because they didn't get any protein. We ALL know that statement is off the wall and has no merit. This is the same person who posted that they wanted a pic of a beardie biting a leo gecko, and also the same person that told someone that was awaiting the arrival of their perfectly healthy BD to possibly expect it to be dead.

Was just trying to add a little common sense to shut down that "no protein" comment so that others could spend their time posting how beautiful Ralph's babies were. I didn't think the whole mealworm thing would get started up again...

Beautiful babies there and congrats on raising them crix free!

but I just hate to see it when someone just posts a pic to share their babies and their accomplishments and then here comes a bunch of other junk on their thread.

CheriS Dec 15, 2003 06:16 PM

are having a success with them being cricket free. The pellets will supply the protein they need as the Juvie formula is high in that.

But... What is that you have them on as a substrate?

Your babies are gorgeous

and I dont usually get into arguments and i really feel like crap bringing this up with the rest of the thread and all, and i dont want to seem like I am telling you what to do or anything...... but did you say lettuce, as in, iceberg or romaine lettuce as a staple? Beardies shouldnt be fed lettuces at all, they contain little to no nutritional value, and they are very addicting. Greens like collards, mustards, turnip, and dandelion greens should be the base of the salad.

i'm sorry! i dont want to sit here and "correct" you again, but i figured I would add this. Good luck with your babies!
