Kale...

chargo Dec 15, 2003 03:52 PM

Hello,

I went to Safeway this weekend, and actually found some "Kale".
The only problem is that the guy told me there's 2 different
kinds of Kale. One that has a while stalk with light green leaves,
the other is a dark dark green.
Which one is the good stuff????

Both are good, I rarely see both available at the same time, though. If I had the choice, I would take the ones with the dark green leaves.

Kale is part of the cabbage family (goitrogenic) so should only be used occasionally.

Hope this helps!

Are you sure that it was kale? sounds to me more like Bok Choy. It has 2 different colored leaves and they are somewhat large with a white stalk. Kale does not have a stalk. Its more light green leaves and kinda has rough edges that somewhat curl or wave.

Maybe they had it marked wrong...and Bok Choy I believe isn't something to feed an Ig regularly.

I'd check out some plant sites to be sure....

At first I wasn't sure that it was Kale, but I asked the produce guy and he said that both (dark green leaf, and white stalk with light green leaf) was kale. The one I bought was dark green, didn't have a large stalk, a the edges of the leafs were ridged.

Now that you mention Bok Choy, I remember that the sign for that was right beside the one for the kale. Next time I go, I'll have to go and talk to the "good produce guy". Thanks for your help.
