mealworm beetles

dawnwich Dec 15, 2003 05:30 PM

Eeeek! I've got icy roads and a house full of kids so I can't get out to the pet store today. I'm out of crickets, and my emergency stash of mealworms has all turned into adult beetles, and it's feeding day for my two firebelly toads. Do you think its OK to feed the toads adult mealworm beetles? I'll be able to get out tomorrow for the crickets. Do you think it would be better to wait a day? With all these adult beetles, I might try to set up a breeding colony for the future, but I have two hungry toads here and I don't want to ignore them.

I honestly don't see why not, as long as they're not too big for the frogs. I'd imagine they eat all sorts of beetles in the wild.

Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?

I don't think there would be a problem, so long as you don't do it too often only because of the hard outter body of the beetle and the possability of impaction. I don't think that just a few would do any harm, so long, like stated above, they aren't too large for the toads.
