Sterilite or Rubbermaid website

imacbevan Dec 15, 2003 07:30 PM

I am at wits end trying to find a vendor that carries the following boxes - Rubbermaid 2220 and Rubbermaid 2221 or Sterilite 1752, 1754, 1756 and 1770. I have exhausted all my local retail outlets trying to find them and most seem to not have them in stock. I know Rubbermaid is disontinuing their clear boxes, but I'm hoping to find some before they disappear. I would like to finish my leopard gecko racks and they are based on these boxes. Does anyone know of a website(s) that carries these?

Thanks,
Ian

Sorry Ian, You wont find 2220 or 2221 Rubbermaid discontinued all of their clear totes. My supplier tryed getting me any that they had left and they were all ready sold out. Good luck finding what you need... Maybe youll find someone with some old stock.

Thanks Sam.

My rack design is flexible enough to accomodate either the Sterilite or Rubbermaid Boxes, I'm just having difficulty finding either one. Rubbermaid has done this before. About ten years or so ago they had a really awesome shoe box which was perfect for hatchling snakes. I had gotten out of the hobby for a couple of years and as such got rid of most of those boxes. So here I am trying to rebuild my racks with boxes that I can find!

Any thoughts on where you are going to take your rack designs?

Thanks,

Ian

I too had just finished up two racks using the Rubbermaid 2220 and 2221.
Luckly for me, our Menards still carries them. I bought all that I needed and have now washed my hands of Rubbermaid.

Do you have Mendards where you live? It's like Home Depot and Lowes. I have three of them in nearby towns. How many do you need?

Some days they are out of them, then the next week they have dozens of each size so who know how long that will last. Where do you live?

Good luck,
Troy

Troy,
I'm in Southern California. I had a hunch that Rubbermaid was going to do this several months back when the Rubbermaid boxes disappeared from my local Lowes. I have now been to several Home Depots, a couple of Lowes, Michaels, The Container store, etc. with no luck. Hence the reason I am looking for an online source. The only boxes I seem to find are the Sterilite 1770's which I use for humid hides. The ones I am looking for the most are the Rubbermaid 2221 or the Sterilite 1756.

Thanks,
Ian

Rubbermaid has a website, I can't remember the url but it only lists their products. You can't buy anything from them.

I am not sure what are future plans are for our racks Ian. I know I will keep making the racks, probably with a different box, even if it means having to change the dimensions a little. Sterilite boxes are just as good as rubbermaid, i just really personally liked rubbermaids box design better then sterilite. I am currently in pretty good shape, because I was able to order a whole lot of boxes to keep on hand, so I should be ok for a couple of months. But I am already working on finding a new suitable box to use. Let me know how you make out and if you have any questions that I might be able to help you with, just let me know.

p.s. Look into a store called "Organized Living" Ian.. I have one about an hour form me and they have pretty much every box size and shape known to man. They may have another alternative for you.

Thanks Sam, I appreciate the help. This gives me a couple of more avenues to persue. I have emailed both Rubbermaid and Sterilite and gotten responses. Sterilite pointed me in the direction of one of their vendors (who lists the boxes I'm most interested in - the 32 quart size- at over ten bucks a pop!?!). Rubbermaid was useless in their help just pointing me towards their vendor page. I have actually found a couple of online sources so far, but their shipping costs to California have been rather prohibitive (almost $3.00 a unit for shipping) so I'm still searching.

The container store near me was carrying some good stuff when I was there the other day. They had a variety of sizes - the small size I use for humid hides, two different shoebox sizes, two different sweaterbox sizes, two different underbed storage sizes, etc. The drag was that they were all different heights. I have liked the Rubbermaid and Sterilite's because the 15 and 32 quart sizes could be shuffled around within the same rack, which gave some real nice flexibility.

Thanks for your input, I'm off to see what I can find! I'll let you know how it comes out.
