substrate help

Hey i have moss in my terrarium right now and it keeps dieing unless in replace it or fill that side of the terrarium up with water. well my question is is there any type of live substrate that i can buy or find outside that wont die and my firebellied toads will like? thanks for any help

why do you need live substrate? just use orchid bark or forest bed
