On the topic of rattle snake eggs....

evolutionexotics Dec 15, 2003 10:07 PM

.... I rember reading in one of my books, that rattle snake's fetus's show "primitve signs of placentas." So this is why I started a new thread.. My question is am I imagining this? Has any one here studied this more throughly? If this is true I think it would be another remarkable observation of the evolution of Crotalida.. This is one of the main reasons why I am so enchanted by these animals so much, they are truely unique to them selves... Not to mention, that it would make rattle snakes one of the only herps that has a different level of "live birth"

I think I've heard something of the sort about pit vipers in general, not just rattlesnakes. So I'm the first to say that you're not imagining that you read it, I just can't remember any more details.
(it's really sort of overkill if you ask me, boas do fine without anything like that)

Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?
