Does this pair look un-breedable to you?

Rodmalm Dec 15, 2003 10:54 PM

Here is my albino male that I purchased in July at 380 gms.(at about 920grams now, breeding a 1720gram female that was purchased in March this year at around 300 grams.)

Does she look too small or too young to breed to you? Remember, he is at 920 grams now and has been off feed for about 6 weeks.

Sorry for the poor pic, but my camera doesn't focus well on shavings. I think it has to do with the infra-red beam not working well with shavings for some reason. Sorry for the dirty cage as well. She defecated just prior to hook-up and I don't want to bother them until they un-hook. My cages are normally spotless.

You are in a unique position to let the rest of us know what 'works for you'. They may have the right size to breed. But are you willing to keep the rest of us up to date with a play by play letting us know that your young animals are actually breeding, actually ovulating, actually laying fertile eggs, and actually hatching viable young? By your words the female is an 03. is that correct? I would be very interested in learning what you actually come up with when all is said and done.... Keep us ALL in the loop.

I certainly will. While I have raised a lot of animals in my day, this is my first attempt at Ball Pythons. It's always exciting for me to raise a new species that I haven't worked with before. Even though I have raised thousands of parrots, other snakes(colubrids mostly) and lizards, I am still very excited! Can't wait to get eggs!

I'll let you know if I have any health problems with them or if I even get any eggs/fertile eggs. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Rod, you didn't say how old the female is. She is definitely big enough to breed and the male can produce at his age - he is more than big enough. If I was in your position, I would just sit back and wait for the happy event. If, for some reason, it doesn't happen, there is always next year.

They dont look obese to me more like they can use a couple more meals

I second that motion. I think the female is a little low on body fat. But it could be the picture. I have the same problem with a few of last years girls. They grew to fast and didnt gain enough bady fat. Mine are only 1200grams though. There be good for next year.

Good Luck
