help--question about eggs and incubating

alieliza Dec 15, 2003 11:20 PM

The female laid a clutch today, and this is our first attempt. I retrieved the eggs fifteen to twenty minutes after laying. They were white, solid and textured. I put them in the incubator with moist perilite in a deli cup. This was at noon time today. Now it is midnight and both eggs have a small indentation in the same spot and the texture and color have changed to a whitish yellowish color. They seem to be flattened a little bit on the bottom too. The temperature is at 85-87 degrees and the humidity is almost at 80. The eggs are a little softer in the middle.
Is this normal? does this mean they are infertile? does this happen to eggs when they go to the incubator? If somethings wrong, what is it? This is her third clutch but first time breeding.
thanks
sorry so long.

Both of the eggs are infertile? Why does this happen? We bought the female gravid, and she has laid twice for the breeder, and suddenly her eggs are infertile for us? of course! is it something we did wrong?

Yep kinda sucks but the next batch could be fertile its weird I will give u an example of one of my females this year:
1st clutch both fertile
2nd clutch one fertile one infrertile
3rd clutch one egg fertile
4th clutch both infertile

Is there a reason why they looked nice and white before they were put into the incubator, but not afterwards? Was it just a matter of time before they turned yellow? One of the eggs looked to have a vein in it.

I have had eggs that havent showed signs of infetility till day 47 the eggs all look nice and white at first. Just dont turn them and they will always be fine dont blame yourself or get upset there will be more moste likely.

Hi

You can go to "Albey's Too Cool Reptiles" site and he has a complete instruction page on how to incubate eggs along with pictures. I went and got the exact page for you to go too for you: http://www.albeysreptiles.com/incubate-eggs.htm

If the medium is too wet, it does something to the internal water pressure of the egg. This makes the shell look thin and yellowish in some spots--is that what you were seeing? The denting was probably the egg caving in because of improper humidity.

I don't know what the humidity gauge should read, because I've never used one. I followed Albey's instructions and just measured the water-perlite ratio by weight.

That website is really very helpful. Whatever happened to the eggs, i really dont want it to happen again. I am going to follow that instruction sheet precisely to avoid this happening again.
