Titan, the imported dragon we kept @ soon to start 5 months

CheriS Dec 16, 2003 12:07 AM

he is 16 inches long and weights 268 grams today... he also appears to be shedding into red/rusty colors. Several of the babies are. He is not the longest, but him and the one that is longer are within a few grams of each other.

Super Cheri!!! Titan is growing like a weed, and is a very impressive male. I can't believe mine is even from the same clutch as him. There is such a large growth difference between babies from this clutch. Meg (don't let the name fool ya it's a male) just hit 110 grams today and 13 inches. Compared to my other dragons he is actually a slow grower, hmmm?? I wonder what the deal is with that? Maybe he has not hit the second large growth spurt yet. I don't know I've been rearing him up like I have all my others who tower over little Meg at this age. Were all these from the same parents, and same ages?

No to the same clutch, remember, Meg was from the second group. Meg is acutally in the heavier of the 2nd group. When we broke them into groups of three, Meg was in the middle group, two from the first group and 3 from her group.

Titan, Tarzan and Drei were just very large babies to begin with from the others.

Tarzan slowed down a month ago, Titan is slowing down now and Drei just keeps going..... we think he will pass the others soon in weight, he already has in length.

We notice a direct result with weight and eating in the time the babies spend in the sun, those that were always out in it, grew much faster, those that stayed in the shade or hid grew slower. I don't know if it was the UVB or the light intensity that casued it, but one of them had an ovious effect on them.

This was eight of them as of a month ago.

Tarzan 124 grams
Titan 201 grams
Drei 187 grams
Rusty 142 grams
Donner 115 grams
BB 114 grams
Bond Girl 109 grams
BG,Jr 101 grams
Meg 88 grams

its only showed up recently in them when moved to under PowerSuns and the red in Titan only showed up this shed, he had a bit around his ears prior. Another one called Rusty is real deep red in color, and one of the smallest ones is, most have orange, and four have little or no color, with one being almost a black/white or dark brown/creme color. We were surprised with some color, but one of the parents did come from the Erye Peninsula area that is noted for its deep red dragons.

Its believed that is were the blood dragons came from that are called that in the US as that color does occur in the wild there. The other's came from the Northwest Territory, which has the larger species of vitticeps, but duller colors

We were looking for size and health, all the babies are very healthy and good eaters but the one I call the runt, he seems healthy and gains weight steady, just smaller than the others, he has never really hit a growth sput yet.
