I think we should all introduce ourselves to get this forum on the go.
I have owned green anoles as long as i can remember, which is probably since I was eight or nine. This means that I have owned anoles for a little over ten years. My current anoles (purchased a little over half a year ago) are "Nut" (male) and "Pea" (female). They are housed in a glass enclosure with two live pothos plants and a bromeliad. My female LOVES the bromeliad leaves and has staked out her spot on one of the leaves, while my male loves the pothos and has declared his favorite spot within them as well. The plants are planted in a mix of 100% organic potting soil and some bed-a-beast to retain the moisture well. I have a digital hygrometer/thermometer as well as analog ones, all of which seem to concur most of the time.
I dont know what else to say about them really, but if i had a digital camera i would take pictures of them since they are so absolutely adorable! I am considering purchasing one soon, so pictures should be on the way.

My names Devlin, I got my first anole in fact it was my first lizard at the age of four and it lived for 4 months, I think my cane toad may have poisoned it. SInce then I really got into lizards and keep a meanagerie of them. I have A. leachii, A. m. aliceaus, a few other species, A. porcus , A. chamaeleonides etc. And many other non anole lizards.

Hi. I received a "Florida Anole" a week ago. At first I thought he/she was a green anole because I read that they can be bright green to brown. Now I'm fairly sure it's a brown anole. It seems so small (Previously I owned a large green iguana). My students say they've seen the dewlap, I haven't. Possibly a male? It is in a 5 gallon tank (I'm thinking of putting the fish in there and the anole in the 10 gallon). It has UVB, basking light and a CHE. As well, small spider plant sprigs, dish of water, climbing branches and a hot rock (with the cord cut off). I've been feeding crickets. It ate 5 Friday morning, 2 Friday night, 1 Saturday, 1 Sunday. I've asked the petstores (I went to three) for really small crickets but they still seem to large - he'll eat them but I'm worried about them biting back (inside the stomach). I read that somewhere.

He/she also seems to have something going on around the mouth. At first I told my students it was salt. Now I'm wondering if he is getting ready to shed or is it something else more serious?

Really what I would like to know is if I can hot glue gun some of the sticks together so they don't keep falling down?

Thanks,

Tania

P.S. I'd really like to know if he is a he or a she. I've looked at pictures on the net and compared but I'm not sure.

Now I'm pretty sure my anole (his name is Nomad - yes, that's another story) is a male. I found a website (http://home.t-online.de/home/Joachim/anolis_e.htm) with two clear pictures. If they are accurate (can somebody let me know?), Nomad definately looks male.

What about age? Any way of guessing/approximating? I'm going to try and measure him tomorrow at school. He's at least 4-5 months because that's how long he lasted in someone's basement after a golfing trip to Florida (I'm in Canada.)!

Sorry, me again. I just want to get all the questions out of my head! With my iguana, when I misted his enclosure, I misted him too. Do you do that with anoles? I also used to put my ig in the bath and he would swim. Do anoles swim?

Thanks,

Tania

My name is Tim. I live in Eugene, OR. I'm a freshman in high school. I was highly interested in animals ever since I was 4 years old. I caught my first insects when I was 3 or 4. Since then, I've been studying about them. I kept a LOT of animals in my life, including sparrows, minnows, snails, slugs, longhorn beetles, stag beetles, ants, cicadas, dragonflies, katydids, grasshoppers, praying mantids, western fence lizards, garter snakes, crabs, anoles, hamsters, chickens, locusts, etc. Right now, I only have one anole, a male named Leon. He's growing really fast, and he's nearly 8 in. long! His mate Greeney died some months ago, which was really tragic. I also play instruments, like to read, go outdoors, do birding, etc.
