Bad shed (Rhampholean brevicaudatus) help...

Justin M Dec 16, 2003 10:49 AM

Hi, one of my lil chams has been shedding for almost 3 weeks now. I was told to just let her be by the breeder, but it has been 3 weeks and her skin isn't looking good. I do a heavy mist once a day with warm water and her skin gets soft enough but doesn't try to peel her skin off. The other day I got her moist and tried with pliers...I got some off but there is a lot on areas like her legs and head. Does anyone have any good ideas or do you need any more information? I am worried about her. Thanks

Don't try to pull off the unshed skin unless it is constricting around toes or tail. You can cause scarring or tearing on such a small cham. If this was a larger animal I would just rub the unshed spot gently with a wet Q-tip or fingers. But for such a tiny cham its risky. Keep the humidity where it is supposed to be, mist, and possibly put the cham in a sink with warm water just barely belly deep for 20 minutes to make sure the toes shed properly. The more the cham moves around the easier it sheds. Give more climbing area too. Patches of skin on the back and sides may come off next shed.

It also helps to put polysporin or vaseline jelly on tough spots for a few days in a row before a soak. it helps to loosen it up a bit.
And please tell me you meant tweezers, NOT pliers! YIKES! lol
