Shelf liner question

Julie Dec 16, 2003 12:45 PM

Hi everybody!
I went ot this forum very often about 1 year ago, when a lot of people recommended to use wheat bran as a substrate. I've been using it for a while without problem, but I'd like to change now because I think the bran is dusty, and that is probably not good for my dragons. A couple of weeks ago, I read about shelf liner. I'd like to try it, but I wonder: is it preferable to use the one that is padded or the one that is thin but adheres well to the surfaces? The padded one is likely to be moved around by my Lenny, because he's a "scratching dragon" and the thin one seems slippery. So, which one do you recommend and how does it work for you?

P.S. Here's a picture of Clodine, my new baby. I got her about a month ago, she was 7" long and now she's 10". She really is an eating machine.

From what i've been hearing go with the padded one. BD's seem to get better traction with the padded ones. I believe one of the brands i've heard come up is "Duck" shelf liners which can be found at Wal-Mart.

I use the Duck brand and it's...somewhat padded I guess. It's not adhesive, but sticks well to the floor so that it doesn't move around at all. Just a quick spot cleaning and you've got a super clean cage. I've had reptiles for years and have never had anything this easy to clean. Can't believe I've waited this long to go with it.

Julie,

I just wanted to say how beautiful Clodine is, and I am not just saying that because she looks just like my Fuego ! They would have such pretty babies. Sorry, I don't have any advice with shelf liner because I haven't used it. Just wanted to compliment your baby.

The thicker Duck brand doesn't slip. I like it better then the other also because the thinner liner has a texture to it, harder to get the poop out of the crevices. The thick stuff is great, everything just wipes right up.
