baby copperheads.. anyone have pics?

kristin Jun 03, 2003 10:46 AM

the other day my husband and i were selecting rocks from a small creek to use as garden border. we found a couple of hatchling snakes that we couldn't readily identify. i am more of a ratsnake kinda gal and they weren't rats. they were a mottled brown w/ banding. they didn't appear to have that typical 'leaf litter' pattern, but i'm by no means an expert in copperhead identification, thats just the only kind that i've seen. my husband thought that they might be copperheads cause he thought he saw the 'copper' beginning to develop on their heads, but i didn't notice.
also, u think they might be water snakes? copperheads?
ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated!
so does anyone have pics of baby copperheads u could post? i'd really like to be able to identify them. by the way, we're in central Kentucky. thanks! ciao -k

.. a yellow tail. i am almost positive that it was a banded water snake baby. thanks for your help tho!! now i know that i can pick it up.
if i could own any venomous snake, it would be a copperhead, without a doubt. but my husband would leave me LOL. thanks again
