My new custom bearded dragon cage!

oogieboogie Dec 16, 2003 05:15 PM

Ive been working on this for about 3 weeks now. The reason it still is not finished is due to a lack of money on my part.

The dimensions are 4ft wide, a little over 2ft High and a little over 1.5 feet deep.

It was an old dresser that I no longer used. I gutted out the insides, cut out some plywood for the floor. I bought some polystyrene and shapped out the rocks and used liquid nails to glue the polystyrene to the walls. I bought some tile grout and covered 3-4 layers of it over everything. Bought some sealer to keep it waterproof and hard. And vola!

The only thing i need to get is the plexi glass for the front.

Wow, that looks AWESOME! I guess you will need to put some wire or something over the bulb too right, so the dragons can't burn themselves. That is very creative! I plan on a similar project this weekend with the rock wall. I hope mine comes out as nice as yours did. Good job!

I am thinking of doing something similar. That is such a great idea! One thing. Is there anything that should be put in the cage to keep the wood fireproof, and from drying out from all the heat? Of course I plan on very good ventilation, but my dad wants to help me do this, and this is the first question he asked me.

I never got any emails telling me that everyone replied.

Thanks alot on all the comments everyone. It was a really fun project. It was cheap and extremely easy! The only part that was a pain is waiting for the tile grout to dry.

As for putting wire over the lamp, i dont plan on putting anything over it. Its far enough away where they cant get to it or touch it and ive yet to see them even try.

As for fireproofing it, wood is a very very poor conductor for heat and will not burn by just the lights. And there is actually no wood at all by a light, everything is covered up by tile grout so it is completely good to go!

If anyone wants an info on how i did this or what materials i used i email me at sellout007@hotmail.com or catch me on AIM at selloutsoldout.
