Black headed Python - what a beauty!

Tigergenesis Dec 16, 2003 06:45 PM

Was checking at some of the snakes at my local zoo and saw a Black-headed Python for the first time. It was gorgeous! Are these snakes popular in the pet trade at all? I imagine if so, that they are expensive?

Black Heads are pretty awesome. They are highly sought after in the pet trade... and one of the most expensive snakes there is.

Black Heads take a long time to mature, possibly as long as 5 years, and don't produce lots of eggs, so it'll be a while before they become common or affordable for most folks.

They also aren't very Python-Like.

I think you should have them on your "Life List" of snakes you'd like to work with.

Happy Holidays from TW International Inc.

Here is a picture of our male BHP. We are currently working with 1.2 of the Eastern Phase ( black and White ) of them and they are from 2001. Even thought they are 7ft each and have enough size to breed they will only be cooled this year to prepare for next seasons breeding.

Thanks,
Wyatt

According to the Barkers, 5 years is a normal first year.

5 is the first year for breeding.

Good luck with them.

Well we will breed them at four and see what happens. The cool thing is that this past summer while cleaning the males cage we put him in with the female and locked up with her. Now there was no actual copulation see between them but at least he gave it a shot until we were done cleaning.

thanks,
Wyatt

You can put them together and you might even see some breeding activity..but it is highly unlikely that you will produce in viable eggs...blackheads usually take 6 years to produce though some will produce in 5 theeggs usually arent any good..do the female a favor and at least wait till 5 years...I speak from experience..Michael Ball

Here a photo of a female western BHP. BHPs are my favorite pythons.
